PlayStation Plus is even sweeter for PS5 owners than for those still playing on a PS4. In addition to the usual benefits of 2-3 monthly PS4 and PS5 games, cloud storage, and occasional discounts at the Playstation Store, PS5 owners get access to the PlayStation Plus Collection featuring 20 solid titles from the PS4 era. Check out this list. There are some real quality titles in there, and even if you already own a few there’s a lot to take advantage of.
- Bloodborne
- Days Gone
- Detroit: Become Human
- God of War
- Infamous Second Son
- Ratchet and Clank
- The Last Guardian
- The Last of Us Remastered
- Until Dawn
- Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End
- Batman: Arkham Knight
- Battlefield 1
- Call of Duty: Black Ops III – Zombies Chronicles Edition
- Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy
- Fallout 4
- Final Fantasy XV Royal Edition
- Monster Hunter: World
- Mortal Kombat X
- Persona 5
- Resident Evil 7 biohazard
This is an especially good deal for those who missed some, or all, of the PS4 era, but also for the casual gamer that might have passed some of them by over the year. Given the limited number of PS5 exclusive games so far, this is a welcome addition to PS+ for new console owners. There’s no word on how long the games will be available to claim, or if the title list will change.
How Do They Hold Up?
To be clear, these are PS4 versions of each game, not PS5 upgrades. None are more than 5 or 6 years old, but times change and you have to wonder how they hold up. Thankfully, these are classics for a reason and for the most part they hold up quite well on the next (current?) generation PS5. In fact, there’s a noticeable upgrade in loading times and even a resolution bump if you’re coming from a base PS4 rather than the Pro. For example, Bloodborne is known for some pretty frustrating load times after what is often frequent deaths. On the PS5, it’s far more manageable and even shocking for those accustomed to filling that load time with scrolling through their phone.
Just like any other PS4 game played on the PS5, you’ll have your choice of using your old DualShock 4 or playing with the new DualSense. None of these games support any special DualSense features like haptic feedback or adaptive triggers, but it will work just fine.
How Does it Work?
Like the monthly PS+ games, you can claim them on your PS5 and they’ll be in your game library ready to download anytime, as long as you’re an active PS+ member.
If you’re not a PS+ member, you can sign up for 1, 3, or 12 months with longer terms getting you some lower costs per month. The 12 month subscription at 59.99 is a pretty solid deal, but keep an eye out for discounts from time to time. I’ve seen it for as low as $30 a month.
Keep in mind that while it’s possible to also play these on your PS4, you must first claim them on your PS5. As noted earlier, the performance boost on the PS5 will make you never want to go back to the PS4, especially for some of the slower loading titles!
